Asking around managers, digitalization and new work seem to have settled nicely: mainly in home office, smoothly supported by IT and conferencing tools, perhaps even more efficient than before, as the daily commute eliminated. The well-oiled machine is up and running.
Yet, moving the curtains in home office aside, the majority of employees rather feel in a state of exhaustion:
- 50% of employees feel overworked
- Resignations are up
- Mental illness at the top.
The machine metaphor is outdated, because we need more humanity in business.
In times of complexity, cause and effect can only be deduced in retrospect. There are no right answers.
Dealing with complexity requires empathy, i.e. the ability to see the world through someone else’s eyes and to listen without personalities getting in the way. It often starts by listening to yourself:
Energy for transformation comes from a clear individual purpose.
Ask yourself how you really want to contribute through work. And get clear about what impact you really want to make on the life of others. Take the resulting purpose as a compass for all your work.
As a result, magic will happen. You will feel it yourself: Living up to your purpose improves your well-being. You will say no without regret. You will feel deeper connection with your team.
Human connection is what we need now.
Meaningful work is a right, not a privilege. Let’s switch off the machine and start into the year of purpose.
Become part of a business future that is pulling us in a joint direction: clear, optimistic, together.
