#8: How to make your SME strong for the future

At the last Future of Work Café in Schaan, we gained exciting insights into the value landscape of SMEs: The more than 20 managers represented rated the Values authenticity (staying true to yourself), honesty, respect, optimism and courage as particularly important. They currently feel respect and appreciation most strongly in Liechtenstein. The values of honesty and authenticity are represented in many facets. Optimism and courage, on the other hand, are currently less visible.

Winning the future with optimism and courage

In a world that is increasingly characterized by uncertainty and complexity Resilience and innovative strength are decisive factors for entrepreneurial success. Optimism enables you to recognize opportunities in difficult situations, and courage enables you to take advantage of these opportunities and break new ground. Those who strengthen these values will not only more resistantbut also more competitive.

How can you overcome these challenges?

According to the group, this is not the solution, Risks to avoid them, but to consciously and look positively to the future. This attitude can make the difference between your company stagnating in times of crisis or emerging stronger.

"The difference between what we do and what we could do would solve most of the world's problems."


This quote from Mahatma Gandhi reminds us that our full potential can often only be unlocked by consciously stepping into the unknown. Particularly in uncertain times, this can be a decisive lever for surpassing ourselves and turning problems into opportunities.

Gain confidence and strength: How it works

To spread confidence and strength in your company, I recommend the method of Appreciative exploration (Appreciative Inquiry). This method helps to establish a positive attitude in your team and to get the best out of the existing potential.
  • Step 1: Discovery (recognizing and understanding): Start by exploring the past and present of your organization. Focus on emotions that lead to a sense of connection and belonging.
  • Step 2: Dream (create a picture of the future): Allow yourself and your team to dream and put together the best examples of the present to create an inspiring picture of the future.
  • Step 3: Design (concretizing the image of the future): Now the real work on the future begins. The ideas from the dream phase are developed into concrete, realizable visions.
  • Step 4: Destiny (relocate): Define concrete steps to make the vision of the future a reality. This step leads to targeted project work.
